📻

FM Transmitter: The Heart of the Drive-In Experience

Our professional FM transmitter broadcasts the movie audio directly to your guests' car stereos — they tune to a designated FM frequency and enjoy theater-quality sound through their own speakers with the windows up or down. No app, no Bluetooth pairing, no setup required for guests. Speakers can also be added for guests outside their vehicles or for open-air areas within the venue.

What's Included

Everything for a Turnkey Drive-In

The Drive-In Movie package delivers a complete pop-up drive-in cinema experience. Projection is set up well behind the viewing area and aimed over the cars — clean sightlines from every spot. All screens require specialized heavy-duty tiedowns and ground anchoring, which are always included. Capacity figures depend on actual venue size and layout.

📐

Giant AirScreen Inflatable YOUR CHOICE

Choose the right screen for your venue: 30-foot (510 sq ft, ~100 cars), 40-foot (880 sq ft, 150–200 cars), or 52-foot (1,300 sq ft, 250+ cars). All sizes feature a professional tensioned projection surface and are engineered for large outdoor deployments. Actual capacity depends on your venue layout and the spacing you plan for vehicles.

📻

Professional FM Transmitter DRIVE-IN EXCLUSIVE

A professional-grade FM transmitter broadcasts the movie audio on a clear, dedicated frequency. Guests tune in on their car radio just like a classic drive-in — no apps, no devices, no setup on their end. The transmitter is calibrated for your venue's coverage area to ensure strong, consistent signal across all parking spaces.

💡

High-Power Laser Projector FESTIVAL GRADE

16,000-lumen laser projection for the 30 and 40-foot screens; 20,000-lumen for the 52-foot screen. These broadcast-grade units produce a vivid, high-contrast image even in partially lit environments — essential for drive-in events where headlights and ambient light are present. The projector is positioned behind the last row of vehicles and aimed over the cars.

🔊

Speaker System OPTIONAL ADD-ON

While FM broadcast handles audio for in-car guests, an external speaker system can be added for guests standing outside their vehicles, designated lawn seating areas, or venues where FM-only coverage isn't ideal. Speakers are positioned and calibrated for even coverage alongside the FM broadcast. Ask about adding speakers when you request your quote.

Generator Power FULLY SELF-POWERED

All Drive-In packages are fully self-powered. Our industrial generator handles the projector, FM transmitter, blowers, and all support equipment — no dependency on venue electrical. Events in parking lots, fields, and fairgrounds are fully viable.

🔧

Heavy-Duty Tiedowns & Ground Anchoring

Screens of this size require specialized heavy-duty tiedown systems beyond what smaller packages use. Our crew brings all required rigging hardware and installs it to manufacturer specs for every deployment, ensuring stability in variable outdoor conditions.

🎮

Blu-ray / DVD Player & Media Playback

Commercial-grade Blu-ray and DVD playback included. Bring your disc or connect an HDMI source for digital content. All media connections are handled and tested by our crew before your first car pulls in.

🏗️

Professional Setup & On-Site Crew

Our team arrives well ahead of the event to set up and test the full system. Technicians remain on-site throughout to monitor equipment, manage FM broadcast quality, and ensure a flawless experience from first car to last.

How It Works

Simple for You, Magical for Guests

01

Request a Custom Quote

Tell us about your venue, expected car count, and event date. We'll recommend the right screen size and confirm whether optional speakers are needed for your specific layout.

02

Site Planning

We work with you to plan screen placement, projection position, FM transmitter coverage, and vehicle layout. Good site planning is what separates a smooth event from a stressful one — we've been doing this since 2009 and know what to look for.

03

Setup & FM Test

Our crew arrives 3–5 hours early to inflate and anchor the screen, position the projector, connect the FM transmitter, and run full system checks. We confirm clean FM signal across all parking spots before the event opens.

04

Guests Arrive — They Tune In & Enjoy

Guests are directed to tune to your FM frequency (posted on signs, distributed digitally, or announced). Our crew stays on-site the entire event. After the final credits, we pack out completely.

⚠ A Few Things You'll Need to Handle

  • A large flat area with clear sightlines to the screen — parking lot, field, or fairground. Minimum depth of 80–120 ft for a 30-ft screen; larger for 40 and 52-ft screens.
  • Traffic flow, parking attendants, and lane management for vehicles — our crew manages the cinema equipment only.
  • Any required permits, licenses, or municipal approvals for large gatherings or parking lot events.
  • A public performance movie license if showing a commercially released film to a public audience.
  • FM frequency coordination — we recommend a locally clear frequency; final coordination is typically straightforward.
  • Crew access at least 3–5 hours before the event for setup.

FAQ

Drive-In Questions Answered

How does the FM audio actually work for guests?

+
Guests tune their car radio to a designated FM frequency — just like a classic drive-in. Our professional FM transmitter broadcasts the movie audio across the entire venue area. You'll promote the frequency in your event communications beforehand, and we recommend posting it on signs at the entrance and throughout the lot. Guests with windows down or sitting outside can use the optional speaker system if you choose to add it.

How many cars can actually fit? Do the capacity numbers account for spacing?

+
Car capacity figures (approximately 100 for the 30-ft, 150–200 for the 40-ft, and 250+ for the 52-ft) are general guidelines based on typical venue layouts. Actual capacity depends heavily on your specific venue — the shape and size of the space, how you arrange vehicles, and whether you designate walkway lanes. We work with you during site planning to map out a layout that maximizes capacity while keeping safe spacing.

Do we need speakers if we're using FM?

+
FM alone works great for a pure in-car drive-in experience. We recommend adding speakers if: (1) you have a designated area for guests to stand or sit outside their vehicles, (2) your venue has sections where FM signal may not penetrate well, or (3) you want redundancy. It's a popular add-on for events that blend drive-in and walk-in audiences. Ask about it when requesting your quote.

What kind of surface does the drive-in need?

+
Paved parking lots work great. Grass fields, fairgrounds, and compacted gravel surfaces also work well. The screen and projector are positioned on stable ground away from vehicles. Our anchoring systems are designed for both hard and soft surfaces — we bring the appropriate hardware for your venue type.

When is it dark enough to start?

+
Our high-lumen laser projectors produce a watchable image in low-light conditions, but for the best viewing experience, we recommend starting after civil twilight — roughly 30–45 minutes after sunset depending on your location and time of year. This is standard for all outdoor cinema events, drive-in or otherwise. For summer events, plan for a later showtime or use the pre-dusk window for a pre-show program.

Do we need a movie license for a drive-in?

+
Yes — if you're showing a commercially released film to a public audience (paid or free admission), a public performance license is required. This applies to drive-in events just as it does to walk-in outdoor screenings. Services like Swank Motion Pictures and Criterion Pictures offer straightforward licensing options. Premiere Outdoor Movies does not provide licenses, but we can point you in the right direction.
